Polylang & WPML Support: Going Global

Speaking Your Customer’s Language

If you run a global store, you cannot show an English “Spin to Win” wheel to a French customer. It kills trust. The Ultimate Spin Wheel is designed to be fully Translation Ready (i18n compatible).

There are two distinct ways to translate the plugin, depending on your needs. This guide explains the “String Translation” method and the “Separate Campaign” method.

This is the most flexible method and works best with Polylang or WPML.

The Concept

Instead of trying to translate one wheel, you create two separate wheels.

  • Campaign A (English): “Spin to Win!” – Prizes: “$10 Off”.
  • Campaign B (Spanish): “¡Gira para Ganar!” – Prizes: “$10 de Descuento”.

The Setup

  1. Create Campaign A: Configure your English wheel perfectly.
  2. Duplicate: Go to the Campaigns list and click “Duplicate” on Campaign A.
  3. Translate: Open the new campaign.
    • Change Title: “Win 10% Off” -> “Gagnez 10%”.
    • Change Slices: Edit every slice text.
    • Change Form: “Your Name” -> “Votre Nom”.
  4. Display Logic:
    • Go to Visibility Settings for the English Wheel. select “Display On: Pages”. Pick your English Home Page.
    • Go to Visibility Settings for the French Wheel. Select “Display On: Pages”. Pick your French Home Page.

Why this is better

  • Different Prizes: Maybe you only offer Free Shipping in the US, but not in France. Separate campaigns allow totally different probability and prize logic per region.
  • Analytics: You can see which language converts better in the Dashboard (Eng vs Fr).

Method 2: String Translation (Admin Layout)

If you just want to translate the backend (Admin area) or error messages (Validation), you use standard WordPress translation files (.po / .mo).

Using Polylang/WPML String Translation

  1. Go to WPML > String Translation.
  2. Select context ultimate-spin-wheel.
  3. You will see strings like:
    • Please enter a valid email.
    • Try again tomorrow.
  4. Enter the translation for each language.
  5. Result: When the plugin detects the current language is French (fr_FR), it will automatically swap these error messages.

3. Frontend Localization via JS

The wheel rendering engine (JavaScript) automatically detects the lang attribute of the <html> tag.

  • RTL Support (Right-to-Left): If your site is in Arabic or Hebrew (dir="rtl"), the plugin automatically adjusts:
    • The close button moves to the left.
    • The form labels align to the right.
    • The text inside the wheel slices is flipped to ensure readability as the wheel spins.
  • Fonts: Remember that some Google Fonts do not support Arabic or Cyrillic characters. In the Design Panel > Typography, ensure you select a “System Font” (like Arial) or a Google Font that you know supports your target alphabet (e.g., “Cairo” for Arabic).

4. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Can I use “Loco Translate”? A: Yes. Loco Translate is the easiest way to edit the .po files directly in the dashboard. Just install Loco, find “Spin Wheel” in the Plugins list, and click “New Language.”

Q: Does Shortcode work with translation? A: Yes. You can place [wow_spin_wheel id="1"] on the English page and [wow_spin_wheel id="2"] on the Spanish page.

Q: My “Winner Email” is in English. How do I translate that? A: If you use the “Separate Campaigns” method, you can go to the “Email” tab inside that specific campaign and rewrite the email subject and body in the target language. This ensures French winners get French emails.

Q: Can I translate the “Days / Hours / Minutes” countdown labels? A: Yes, these are customizable in the Settings > Labels tab. However, the Labels tab is global. If you need different labels per language, you MUST use the “Method 1: Separate Campaigns” approach, as the Labels content doesn’t currently support WPML string injection.

Conclusion

Multi-Language Gamification is a powerful trust signal. By taking the time to localize your wheel—not just the button, but the prizes and the error messages—you show international customers that they are first-class citizens in your store.
