Quick Start Guide: Setup in 5 Minutes

Welcome to Ultimate Spin Wheel for WordPress. This guide gets you from a blank site to a live, lead-generating spin-wheel campaign in about five minutes. No coding, no lengthy configuration — just install the plugin, build one wheel, and go live.

Phase 1: Install the Plugin

Ultimate Spin Wheel is a free plugin. You can install it directly from the WordPress plugin directory:

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard (usually yourdomain.com/wp-admin).
  2. Go to Plugins > Add New.
  3. Search for Spin Wheel by wowDevs, click Install Now, then Activate.

Prefer to upload a .zip instead? Use Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin, choose the .zip file (leave it zipped — WordPress needs the .zip format), then click Install Now and Activate Plugin.

Note: Ultimate Spin Wheel Pro is a separate plugin. If you have a Pro license, install the free plugin first, then add the Pro add-on alongside it to unlock premium features.

Phase 2: The Pre-Flight Check

  1. Check the menu: After activation, a new Spin Wheel item appears in the left sidebar, with sub-pages for Dashboard, Campaigns, Leads, Settings, and Support.
  2. Open Settings: Visit Spin Wheel > Settings just to confirm the page loads. If the settings panel appears, your server meets the requirements.
  3. WooCommerce is optional: Static and Unique Pool coupon codes work without WooCommerce. You only need WooCommerce active if you plan to use the WooCommerce Dynamic coupon type (Pro), which generates real WooCommerce discount codes.

Phase 3: Build Your First Campaign

Now the fun part — let’s create a simple “Welcome” wheel.

  1. Add a campaign: Go to Spin Wheel > Campaigns and create a new campaign. Give it a clear name like “Home Page Welcome”. You can build unlimited campaigns on the free version.
  2. Set up your prizes (Coupons tab): Click a slice to edit it. Set its label (for example, “10% Off”), choose a coupon type, and set a probability. The free coupon types are Static (one code for every winner) and Unique Pool (paste a bank of unique codes). Enter your coupon code in the code field. Repeat for the other slices, or delete extras to keep it simple — six slices is a good starting point.
  3. Balance the odds: Aim for your winning slices to total 100 so each probability reads as a true percentage. A slice with a probability of 0 (or blank) is shown on the wheel but never wins.
  4. Pick a design (Designs tab): Choose one of the free presets — Default, Classic Gold, or Neon Night — then fine-tune colors, fonts, and the popup background to match your brand.
  5. Set visibility (Visibility tab): Choose the layout type (Spin Wheel, Popup, or Campaign Banner). Under Display On, select Entire Site so the wheel shows everywhere. For testing, set the display frequency to Show Always — you can switch to Show Once Per Day once you go live. Set the Status to Enabled to make the campaign active.
  6. Save: Click the Publish (or Update) button to save your campaign.

Phase 4: Go Live and Test

  1. Confirm the status: On the Visibility tab, make sure the campaign Status is set to Enabled (it will read “Active”). A campaign left as disabled will never display.
  2. Save once more to be sure your changes are stored.
  3. Open an incognito window: Use a private browsing window so cookies and frequency caps don’t hide the popup from you.
  4. Visit your homepage and wait for the popup to appear based on your trigger settings.
  5. Spin and verify: Enter a name and email, spin the wheel, and confirm the winning coupon is shown. The winner is drawn securely on the server before the wheel animates, so what you see is the real result.

Troubleshooting the “No Show”

  • Status: Double-check the campaign Status is Enabled on the Visibility tab — this is the most common reason a wheel doesn’t appear.
  • Frequency: If you already saw the popup, your display-frequency rule may be hiding it. Test in a fresh incognito window or set frequency to Show Always.
  • Caching: Clear your browser cache and any WordPress/CDN page cache so the latest campaign loads.
  • Targeting: Confirm your Display On, device, and user-role rules actually include the page and visitor you’re testing with.
